Active Sri Lanka (14 Days)
Day 01
Arrive and transfer to a hotel in Negombo. Negombo is nearest beach resort to the international air port and it is 30 min drive from it. This region is famous for tourism and fishing industries. Majority of the people are catholic and it is known as “Little Rome” After noon cycle through the city and around Negombo lagoon 15- 20 km. Over night stay at Negombo.
Day 02
After break fast start the cycling tour through the local villages around Negombo and all the way to Kuliyapitiya. About 40 km cycling track will give you a glimpse of beautiful country side of Sri Lanka. Dabulla rock cave temple will visit at the afternoon. Over night stay at Sigiriya.
Day 03
After break fast climb Sigiriya Lion Rock and relax during the day time. Sigiriya is known as Lion rock and it is about 200 meters high. This rock was use by the king Kashaypa 5th century AD (473-492AD) to build his palace complex. Middle of the rock there are magnificent colourful frescoes painting belongs to 5th century AD. Ruin of the king’s palace is on the rock summit and it is magnificent place to be. On the summit there is a rock carve swimming pool too. After noon possible to do elephant back riding or stay at the hotel. Over night stay at Sigiriya.
Day 04
After break fast proceed to cultural site of Pollonnaruwa. Pollonnaruwa is the historical 2nd capital of Sri Lanka in the 11th -13th centuries AD. The royal place, Gal Vihare (three splendid statues of the Buddha carved out of a rock, Lotus bath and the Museum; Quadrangle (included several historical buildings and temples). Visit this cultural side by bicycles. Lunch Giritale hotel. After noon jeep safari to spot wild elephants close by National park. Over night stay at Giritale.
Day 05
After break fast proceed to Kandy. Kandy is the cultural city of Sri Lanka. This city situated 500 meters above sea level and it has mild climate all year round. Sri Lanka 2nd largest city and the historical last kingdom of Sri Lankan kings is surrounded by beautiful mountains. Kandy has it own traditions, cultural dance, food, dress codes, traditional weddings etc… First we cycle to Dabulla 50km and after that proceed to Kandy. Afternoon visit a spice garden and proceed to a hotel in Kandy.
Day 06
After break fast proceed to Gampola city and Climb Mount Ambuluwawe. Ambuluwawe is a latest tourist attraction for local and foreign tourist to Sri Lanka and it is famous for all religions. Top of the mountain has newly build small four religious places to worship and a famous land mark that give you a breathtaking view from it. Bio diversity is very high this mountain has cool climate. The latest boulder garden and some parks give visitors to relax their free time. After noon visit Peradeniya botanical garden, Kandy tooth relic temple and cultural show. Over night stay at Kandy.
Day 07
After breakfast proceed to Kitulgala for white water rafting. Kitulgala is the only place to do white water rafting in Sri Lanka. The river name “Kelaniya” was used to build famous Oscar wining film Bridge on river Quwai. The filming was done close to the Rafting track. Area is surrounded by beautiful lush Green Mountain. Over night stay at Kitulgala.
Day 08
After break fast tracking through Kitulgala village to a small forest patch and it is possible to have swim bath in a natural swim pool or in the Kelaniya River. After lunch proceed to Nuwaraeliya. En route visit the water falls, tea plantation to taste a cup of pure ‘Ceylon tea’. Nuwaraeliya is a town located 6000ft above sea level with cool misty hills and colonial type cottages. This town is known as ‘Little England’ for its atmosphere that has been retained from times of British Rule. Half way visit a water fall. Over night stay at Nuwaraeliya.
Day 09
Very early morning travel to Horton plains and world’s end with your breakfast packets. The Horton plains from an undulating plateau more than 2000 m high and it is 20 km away from the Nuwaraeliya town. The plain is very silent and beautiful. Unusual high mountain vegetation has every corner. Wild life, barking deer, leopards (very rarely seen), purple faced languor, and many birds including Ceylon blue magpie. The most stunning feature is world’s end, where the southern Horton plains come suddenly to an end drop almost straight down for 700m. It is most awesome sight here in Sri Lanka. After noon travel to Bandarawela by train. This journey is a memorable one. The train go through mountains and tunnels. Tea plantations and mountain jungles view from the train unforgettable one. Also it is an opportunity to travel with locals by train. Some time this train will be crowded but it is worth to travel. Over night stay at Bandarawela.
Day 10
Proceed to Rain forest. This forest is another world heritage site and comprises some 8800 hectares of natural and modified forest. There are 22 villages surrounded by this forest and locals enter it to collect medicine, fire woods, tap kithul (fish tail) palms for sap to make jaggery and brown honey. Fauna and flora rich this forest famous among bird lovers and naturalist. After noon visit rain forest and over night stay close to the Rain forest.
Day 11, 12 & 13
After break fast leave for Beach stay Benthota. Benthota is a famous tourist resort area in southern costal region. There are many hotel and restaurants on this coastal side. Also water sports, Turtle hatchery, Coral Reef, River Excursions, Fishing, diving, swimming, Jet Ski, are famous activity here.
Day 14
Departure
